Geographically, between Dauphin Island and downtown Mobile, there's a lot of territory.
Within that area is the Order of the Rolling River, a smallish band of folks established in 1999 and proudly committed to putting on a Mardi Gras parade and ball for their part of the world: south Dauphin Island Parkway.
The Order rolled this year on January 16 at 2 p.m. The theme was American Idols and Icons. Grand Marshal Bruce Pfeiffer, owner of Pickett Real Estate, joined King Goober and Queen Gail in the parade. There were five floats, built by the group.
Rolling River changed its parade and ball date to the same day as the Island Mystics, just to the south on Dauphin Island. The traffic situation was challenging, but everyone seemed to get through it OK.
